Inkscape path effect- offset-creating border

Create an object>>

Object to path>>

Path effects


Now go to add path effects (a small + button at the bottom of the screen)


Choose offset


Now, this dialogue box opens.


Now we have an outline of the original object with handles to modify the shape.



This is an easy way to  modify a shape. Just use the handles of the offset. Then, there are other ways to change the settings. 

Mitter option is used to handle the sharpness of any edge. 



This shape could act as a face or the middle petal of a flower like bottlebrush. 



Using nodes of offset to change shape

offset tool increase or decreases the size of the object while keeping the proportions intact.


Create an object, duplicate it, and use offset to increase or decrease its size. after changing color.

to use the nodes of the offset tool, click on edit path by nodes located at the left side of the screen.



We can also use the toolbar to the right to increase or decrease the size of the offset.
