A study guide to read Srimad Bhagvatam
Srimad Bhagvatam study guide
There are three types of taap’s-
Daihik or Adhyatmik
The body suffers because of its own fault in this case. Avidya,
anger, envy, stupidity, physical ailments, etc ail the mind and the body.
Adidaivik or daivik-
The divine forces cause these problems. Drought, too much
heat, too much rain, earthquake, drought, etc are examples of these problems. Deeds
in the past lives can also cause these problems.
Adibhautik
These problems arise when a person goes through their daily
routines. Family, job, office, school, college, etc are the place form which
these problems can emanate. A person tries to prove themselves as correct or
wrong and this causes issues in their lives.
A discussion about the atman and being born in different yonis-
We use an analogy. Let atman and fire be analogous. The fire
may be too bright or too dim. The brightness of this metaphorical fire is governed
by karma of the individual. Fires of different brightness belong to different
yonis. So, karma of an individual define their yoni.
The ten lakshana of dharma are:
Dhairya
Kshama
Sanyam
No stealing
Pavitrata
Indriyon ka Sanyam
Sad buddhi
Satya bolna
No anger
A discussion of word meanings-
Tanmay- to become one with
Suka-deva was leaving his home and the trees had become one with him. So, when Suka ji's father called him, only the trees could answer back.
Rasayan-
It does not mean some obnoxious and dangerous chemical. It sounds like some precious liquid collected from beautiful and fragrant flowers and green trees. So, are chemicals really that beautiful and auspicious? So, may be the western people do not know how to use rasayana for benefits and all they can do is misuse them.
Rasayana shastra belongs to India.
Taap-
It means not heat but 'discomfort' or 'dissipation of the otherwise fruitful energy', according to Vanamali ji.
