We know what Tonks is like when it comes to loving her werewolf, she wants him all the time. So, one night when the couple is ready to go to fall asleep, both are already in their pajamas, Lupin finds himself engrossed in his book. Tonks is beside him and asks him about it. It is a book about defensive magic, Lupin's favorite. Tonks does not want him to ignore her and find solace in a silly book. It gives us the idea that Tonks is jealous and possessive and irritates Lupin. The truth being told, Tonks still doesn't know what her werewolf likes, he likes everything about her, he likes being around her, and he loves to do his stuff in her company. Our favorite metamorphmagus still wants his attention because she is unaware that he already has it. Maybe she does not like the fact that her husband is finding solace is something other than her so utterly that he can completely ignore her presence. The fact is, he is not, but dear Tonks is yet to learn what love is and that she will find at the end of the fic when she feels his love, her love, their love, and the meaning of a lover's company.
Tonks comments that the book is boring, Lupin ignores her. She directly says to Lupin that his wife demands his attention, Lupin reads her mind and says that she was jealous of a book. Indeed, she was! So, Tonks uses some drastic measures, she calls the protective husband streak in him. She says that she was attacked and Lupin ignores her again. She is surprised about how Lupin did not begin to give all her attention to her and makes her curiosity known to him. She says that it was unusual for someone like him, a very protective husband, to not be worried sick about the attack. Lupin casually comments that if it would be anything important then she would tell it to him the first thing after she returned home. It shows that Lupin genuinely cares for her and Tonks does not need to tell Lupin in so many words what is troubling her and at which time. Lupin does not use legilimency on her but his love for her is enough to tell him everything about her. Tonks is safe and happy and beside him in their bed but yes, she is jealous of a book, as Lupin has already observed.
Then, Tonks says that she fell down because of the attack, she was attacked by a rock. She asks why Lupin is not worried that his wife was attacked by a rock. Lupin casually observes that she is clumsy and these things are usual. Tonks is not happy about it. She rolls herself in her blanket into a roll and goes off to the edge of their bed. Lupin warns her lest she fall off. It shows that Lupin truly knows and cares for Tonks every moment, even when he is not around her physically. It earns the protective husband an eyeroll and she retorts that she is not that clumsy. Lupin begins reading again now that he has put her on her guard. Then he has finished reading and is in the mood for some sleep.
Lupin truly wants her and recognizes his relationship with her. So, instead of feeling irritated and stalking off to bring a spare blanket for himself, he asks her to give his side of the blanket to him. The metamorphmagus unrolls herself and obliges to let him in. But, she keeps her physical distance. So, Lupin calls her to come closer for her warmth. He beckons her and says admonishes her for not coming closer because he is never warm without her, he admits.
Now as she gives in and finds herself wrapped in his arms, she agrees that now she is getting attention. Then, she bids him goodnight and they go to sleep.

Tonks had fancied Lupin as a child and kept having a crush on him forever since then. Lupin asked her about it and she agreed so after Dumbledore's death and he gave in.
Lupin goes to teach Latin to an eight year old Tonks and she wants to be his Dora now that Sirius is in jail but Lupin must leave her for teaching the squibs.
Lupin and Tonks meet at James and Lily's wedding and he teaches her to dance when the other boys won't let her play aurors and death eaters. She says to her mum that she would marry him someday.
