Sphota means to burst open.
It explains how the mind can accept the meaning of what is spoken in the language.
It was propounded by Bhrtihari (Book= vakyapadiya)
Vakyapadiya has three parts: Brahmakanda, vakyakanda, padakanda.
The act of speech has three stages:
Conceptualization by the speaker (Pasyanti=idea)
It is an abstraction of the world, its ideas and concepts, and their relationships. It is a part of information science.
Domains of discourse/ Universe of discourse/ Universe/ Universal set: It is the universe according to us. This need not be the entire universe as it really is. But, it is the entire universe as seen by a particular individual. This universe may contain abstract things too. When giving fundamental rights, we do not talk about every particular citizen who is entitled to that fundamental right. We think of all the people as an abstract entity.
Performance of speaking (Madhyama= medium)
Comprehension by the interpreter (Vaikhari= utterance)
