Oven

An oven helps to expose materials to a hot environment.

The temperature can be controlled.

Thermally insulated chambers

Different types of ovens depend on

Their purpose

How they generate heat

Kilns used for ceramics potteries and metallurgical and glass furnaces are ovens too.

Ovens produce heat using fuel or electricity.

Microwave oven: Exposes to microwave radiation

Electric oven: Uses resistances

Two types of ovens:

Earth ovens: Dig heating chambers into the earth and cover them with leaves and soil.

Masonry ovens: Built-up ovens made with clay, bricks, cob, stone, etc.

Archeologists believe that it is the surest symbol that people lived around that place.

The fire is first built then it breaks into a smolder>>

The food is placed in the oven and then covered>>

The food  may take several hours to a day to cook

Masonry ovens

Masonry ovens came long before writing came. It came when we started to use fire to cook.

The first true oven- Egyptian paintings show bakers putting the loaves on a hot rock and covering it with a clay pot.

Modern electric ovens move hot air inside an insulated box.

Electric ovens working

Electric ovens have an element that gets hot when electricity passes through it.

Heat is controlled by the thermostat.
