Microfinance:

Microfinance or microcredit is a type of banking service provided to the unemployed or the low income groups who would otherwise have no other way to get financial services. 

Microfinance allows people to take up reasonable small business loans safely and in a manner in compliance with ethical banking practices. 

Many kinds of microfinancing take place in various developing countries like India, China, Indonesia, etc. 

It gives loans to poor people which are also called microloans. They also help in financial inclusion, promote entrepreneurship and empower the weaker sections like women.

Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan

  • Ministry of education
  • Launched in 2009
  • Centrally sponsored scheme: 75% is held by the centre while the rest 25% is held by the states. 
  • But, for special category and northeast states, 90% is held by the centre while the rest 10% by the states. 
  • Caters to the educational needs of students with disability from age group 14 to 18+ and in the age group of class 9th to 12th.
Aims and objectives:
  • To universalise secondary education and focus on quality education in STEM.
  • Universal retention of students by 2020.
  • To make pupil teacher ration 30:1.
  • Funding and resources:
  • Domestic resources and international partners like the International development association (World Bank) and UK's Dept for international development
  • Better education at the secondary level by making all secondary institutions follow certain norms.
  • To remove gender, socio-economic and disability barrier

Impacting Research, Innovation, and Technology (IMPRINT)
  • Ministry of education
  • Launched in 2015
  • Coordinating agencies: IISC and 16 IITs
  • Funding:
  • 142 projects at a total funding of Rs. 313.30 crore were approved under IMPRINT-I
  • These are contributed by the Ministry of HRD and the participating ministry in the ratio 50:50.
Aims and objectives:

  • IMPRINT is the first of its kind pan-IIT and pan-IISC joint initiative to develop a new education policy and a roadmap for a research to solve major engg and technical problems in 10 technology domains in INdia.
  • It seekst to identify areas of immediate relevance that requires innovation in society. 
  • Ensure support and higher funding for research for identified areas.
  • Measure outcomes of innovation and research efforts and its impacts on people's standard of living.
