The magical night in the Himalayas part 1
An electric heater buzzed away. A female figure lay close to it. She lay motionless her eyes wide open. Sonali had cuddled herself in her flannel blanket. Her eyes shone to reflect the light of the sun after the sunset.
The river shines in the moonlight. The moon shines in the sunlight. But Sonali’s eyes shone in the light of joy. She glanced at the closed wardrobe. It was home to her books. Sonali had written the best code in her Python class. She had coded for how to create a calculator in python.
Only fools want money. The real happiness comes from what you get in exchange for your sweat. Only in the lap of the Himalayas, Sonali could not sweat even during the summer.
She had chosen such an unconventional life. Sonali was twenty-four. She had rejected the advice of so many well-wishers. “What measures your success is the money you make. And to earn bags of bucks, you need a good corporate job.” “I would be stuck behind a table all day”, thought Sonali.
“Girls are in danger every moment of their life. Sonali beti, return home before sunset”, her mother would advise her. Some people would call it her Fernweh but she could not call it so. She loved to be at home. So, she would make a home wherever she wanted to visit and stay there as long as she longed.
Eternity had helped and encouraged her. He first made the wheels then he made the house. He is the best thing Sonali could ever think of.
Kalindi curled her tail and purred. Her purr resonated with the whizz of the wind. She had curled up beside Sonali in her blanket. Kalindi looked at her, her eyes shining in the dark. Sonali thought of deciding to get up. Her stomach lurched but it was not hunger.
She had seen two pairs of eyes right outside her window. The other moment, they disappeared.
Sonali’s first instinct was hunters lurking in the dark. But how can human eyes shine so bright? Sonali got up without any fuss. Her house was dark inside except Kalindi’s eyes. Sonali and Kalindi looked at each other. Kalindi persuaded her not to wander in the dark of night. Besides, she was not in any real danger with Kalindi guarding her during the night. So, she put an electric cooker of rice and opened her laptop.
She loved medium.com. And, exams were approaching. She would soon have to park on her parent’s lawn, wait for a couple of weeks in the town, and write her exams.
Kalindi began to growl. Now there were three pairs of shining eyes outside her window. And they disappeared in the blink of an eye. Sonali could not blink. She looked at Kalindi. Kalindi was relaxed and she curled her pitch-black furry body in the dark.
