bharatendu harishchandra

The conservative society in which he lived considered romantic relationships as a taboo. Still, love poetry flourished in these days. Bharatendu says that to fall in love, one has to forget what others say. This can also have some spiritual implications because the Bhakti saints loved God forgetting about popular traditions and what people had to say. It can also mean that love is acceptance and to accept someone, one has to do away with vanity and become humble.
Everyone talks about this love but no one knows about this. If they knew about it then they would not give a dime to the world and be happy always. It means true love empowers while a loveless world weakens. Again, it can imply that love is not carnal desire. Lust is a thing of this world. Love is spiritual and divine. If someone can surpass the realms of lust and embrace love then they can afford to be happy at all times.
He again talks of the divine nature of love. He says that love is full of spirtituality. It is the essence of all shruti literature and the seed of all smriti literature. Even the puranas talk of love of the divine couple. So, there is nothing comparable to love.
