 THE JUICE VAN

 I stand near the metro station and I stand all day. Right from 9 am to 9 pm, I work non-stop. The van is my rented van and the juicer is on rent too. I pay my rent daily and sell fresh mausambi juice. Cool with ice that I keep in a box. 

My work is not very difficult if you do not consider my standing under the hot sun all day. Mausambi juice is perfect after lunch and breakfast. People who look professional with uniforms and bags come and drink everyday. They must travel everyday. It fills them and feels refreshing. The good way to start a day. Then come the students out of school for a treat who come with their mothers and both have a drink of natural fruits. And come the college goers with friends and lovers who need a break. And come the shopkeepers from the locality who want to drink after meals and come the daily wage workers who all come and pay me not only for the natural drink but also for the hospitality I show. 

I wish I owned  a big juice shop and could provide my customers a seat and more variety. But I don't own it and may be I will someday. My love for them and for my work will not change anyway. 

I sell for ten rupees a glass and twenty rupees for a bigger glass and my son cleans the glass glasses. Around me is a crowd of daily passengers and unknown faces who change daily. I know some are pick pockets, some are police who drink at my stall for free and some are auto richshaw drivers who pay. They roam around daily. Sometimes the police will harass me for blocking the street and ask for bribes which I must give as a routine. Some will come by to ask for directions and I will give them gladly, some will come to share pamphlets but I have no use of it. Ten rupees a glass and hundreds of glasses per day, five rupees a mausambi, the rent and the bribe are my investments and goes in my hard work in that one refreshing glass you drink.
