How to draw beautiful seashells? seashells tutorial. Blog 22 Step by step tutorial oil pastel painting
I know guys, these pictures look more complicated than they really are. A beginner may find it very easy though because I myself am a beginner and made these two images plus clicked the photographs in just half an hour. Now I have uploaded these photographs and am writing at leisure. So you want to challenge yourself with something new to draw and paint? I have a love for seashells and marine life. So I thought I could draw the seashells. You have to doodle the picture first then you have to fill in colours. The doodle will be pretty simple with my guide.
First draw the doodle of the main body of the shell. You just have to freehand it. Do not worry if your picture doesn't turn out exactly the way you want it to. This is a single line doodle and you could like me release a deep breathe and let your pencil move along the paper.
Now complete the doodle. While making this doodle I just told myself that nature has nothing perfect so any imperfections that I added while making free hand could just add to the realism of the picture.
Now comes the real part. Because it is the fun part. Fill in colours. You have already seen that I made two types of paintings using two different colour combinations. You could similarly use your favourite colour combinations to draw this. Only pay attention towards the light and dark colours and the gradual progression of light and dark colours because they signify light and shade. That is all. I have used yellow ochre to make these outlines. Just relax and do free hand once again because all you need are these lines. There is nothing like correct and wrong proportions here.
Next I have filled deep yellow.
To the inner face add orange and medium yellow at the centre. That is all for the main body.
Now I add some light brown.
And I add some grey yellow. Once again you do not have to use the exact colours as I have used. Just make sure of using dark and light colours in the correct progression and you get the same results.
Blend well. One more tip. Do not press the oil pastel while painting. It will make undesirable lumps of colours and make the colours hard to blend. If you want to deepen a colour then add multiple layer of it with gentle hands. I wish anybody told me this when I just began doing oil pastel paintings then I would not have so many broken pastels in my box today.
Add yellow to the lighter parts and add brown for the highlights. Your picture is complete but I will tell you about another variation that I made because after I completed this picture, I wanted a cuter version of it.
I use orange, vermillion, deep yellow and orange and light yellow to make the painting on the right hand side. I think the first one looks more of a realistic and the second one looks more of cartoonish and cute. It could be more cute by using colours like pink, etc. Well I have not tried the variation but I challenge you to. Love to read your comments guys. How did your painting turn out to be?
